Parallaxe is a research-based art and technology project that makes dialogue and understanding between opposing political positions tangible through AI mediation.

Democracy needs dissent and the ability to tolerate it. Parallaxe brings people with different political views back to the table and uses AI to mediate.

I think countries with more money should do more to protect the climate.

What would a fair way to make that happen look like to you?

FAQs

Find some quick answers to the most common questions.

What is Parallaxe?

Parallaxe is a research-based art and technology project that makes dialogue and understanding between opposing political positions tangible through AI mediation. In the project, two people with different perspectives engage in a conversation. The AI mediates by paraphrasing, translating, carefully fact-checking, and visually representing moments of convergence. Parallaxe is a collaboration between forward stud.io and the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) within the Fraunhofer Network “Science, Art and Design.”

How does it work?

After a short questionnaire, you are matched with a person whose political views differ as much as possible from your own. You then take part in a roughly ten-minute, AI-assisted conversation in which your statements are paraphrased, translated, and carefully fact-checked.

Why is AI used and what is the goal?

Artificial intelligence is used in Parallaxe to structure dialogue between opposing political perspectives and make it more comprehensible. It helps participants express their views more clearly, avoid misunderstandings, and keep complex topics accessible — without interfering with content or taking sides. Through paraphrasing, translation, and careful contextualization of facts, AI supports a respectful and comprehensible exchange. Multiple external language models (Claude, Perplexity, ChatGPT) are combined to cross-check each other and reduce algorithmic bias.

What topics are discussed?

Each session focuses on a central societal question drawn from fields such as democracy and human rights, technology and ethics, freedom and the common good, climate and economy. The questions are deliberately chosen to be controversial – they invite participants to consider different perspectives and reflect on their own position.

How is my data processed?

Our own database and backend run on EU servers. For AI features, pseudonymized requests are sent to external LLM providers (OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, Perplexity), which may process data outside the EU. Content is processed temporarily for the session; longer retention only with explicit consent.
